The only flowers my garden center had  week or so ago was Pansies. We planted some in the planter out in front, and they are really pretty. They actually lasted throughout the painting process, a little surprising since their petals are so delicate. I tried to convey the delicacy and the fragile appearance of these colorful little flowers.
Here are a few photographs on how I did this one....
I started with a turpentine wash of permanent rose, then wiped most of it off with a soft rag.
I sketched it with a thinned down permanent rose, just to get the shapes on
This is the first pass of color on each flower
Working on the glass, you can still see the pink under painting. More detail to the flowers.

I refined the flowers, added highlights to the glass, and darkened the background

For fifteen years I traveled the Midwest, mostly by car to Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee.  I spent hours each week on the road, sometimes miles and miles between destinations. I, like many other working mothers spent a lot of time feeling guilty about working and being away. I decided to stop doing that, and instead draw on the inspiration of the beautiful scenery that surrounded me during those road trips. I am creating large landscapes based on the memory of theses places and the photographs I took, many times from the car window. This painting is a place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Maybe someplace between Escanaba and Marquette. It is an absolutely gorgeous part of the United States. I loved traveling there, the swampy areas after a rain were beautiful.  This is a small study of the larger landscape to come.
Thanks to my brother Larry for coming up with the name, it will be up to you to figure it out!

Washing of the Water, Oil Painting by Linda McCoy

This is Voice of America Park, it's still pretty winter looking here, but there is hope, the sky was really blue today and there is green algae on the water. Spring can't be too long now :)
I named this painting after the haunting Peter Gabriel song "Washing of the Water."
