Lilacs, Oil Painting, Linda McCoy

These lilacs grew in my yard this spring and were just spectacular, maybe because of all the rain we had. The teapot is from Pier One, and the napkin was stitched by my grandmother as a wedding gift.

Carolina Wren

This little Carolina Wren lives in my yard, loves suet cakes and makes a joyful song every morning. He doesn't seem to be intimidated by the mean Mockingbird who has managed to set up housekeeping around my feeder.

This painting is available at the Row House Gallery and Framing in Milford, Ohio.

Wren

This little Carolina Wren has been visiting my backyard feeder for some time. I have taken dozens of pictures of him and sometimes he strikes a perfect pose.

Chocolate Chirp, Song Sparrow

Sometimes when I'm working on a painting I'll share it with my brother, Larry. He always comes up with a unique title, sometimes putting a different spin on the painting. His immediate response to this little Song Sparrow was "Chocolate Chirp." I loved it, so here it is, in oil, 6"x6" on Ampersand Gessobord.

August Feast, Sunflower and Sparrow

We have a magnificent sunflower field in Mason, Ohio, not too far from where I live. The flowers are planted every year by Natorp's Nursery in Mason. When the sunflowers bloom people come from everywhere to take pictures, they bring props with them, chairs, toys, picture frames to frame themselves in the field. I wonder how many "selfies" are taken here every year?
I went twice this past summer, once to meet my grandsons and my daughter-in-law. It was a great day and the boys seemed to enjoy the flowers and the picture taking. We must go again next year.

Since I paint so many bird paintings, I decided to go back when the sunflowers were drooping over and seeding; I was rewarded with more sparrows than I could count. They were flitting from flower to flower gorging themselves on ripened seeds.

The painting is one of my favorites. I love the sighing sunflower petals, the birds, and the color of the August sky.

This painting hung for a few months at Sinclair College in Mason, along with other Arts Alliance Painters.  I brought it home on this frigid Cincinnati day.

Lucy and Ethel

It has really been a cold and snowy winter here. Last year was mild and I got spoiled. So did these two Female Cardinals sitting in an icy tree a few days ago. My brother, Larry decided this painting should be named Lucy and Ethel, and so it is.

Snowbird, Slate Colored Junco

Their arrival signals winter has come to the Ohio River Valley. We had an unusually heavy snowstorm and this little Junco didn't seem to mind. I photographed him through the window as he sat on the deck under the bird feeder waiting his turn.

Red Breasted Nuthatch ll

This little bird has been hanging out at my feeder for about two months. He loves suet cakes imbedded with crickets. He will leave soon on his journey south, for warmer weather. In the summer he lives in the northern areas of the United States and Canada.
